The design of this shirt has deep roots and a unique history. It is inspired by Mykhailo Bryansky’s painting “Portrait of a Girl in an Embroidered Dress” from the collection of the Kherson Regional Art Museum. This painting was stolen by Russian occupiers, and today this garment serves as a symbol of remembrance for the lost heritage, the artist, and the museum awaiting the return of its treasures.
On the original canvas, the embroidery is executed in red and blue tones. Similar patterns were historically widespread across a large territory—from Chernihiv and Kyiv regions to Kharkiv, Sumy, and the northern parts of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. Although researchers cannot precisely determine the specific region of origin for this piece, it embodies a collective image of the Ukrainian embroidery tradition.
