The Christmas spider is a traditional Ukrainian Christmas decoration with deep roots in folk culture. It symbolises happiness, harmony and prosperity, which is why it has long been used to decorate homes during the Christmas holidays.

Such ‘spiders’ were considered a talisman and a symbol of the universe. On Christmas Eve, they were hung from the central beam of the house on a thin horsehair thread — and at the slightest breath of air, the spider rotated smoothly, creating a sense of living movement and harmony.

It was believed that the straw spider absorbed all the negative energy of the house throughout the year, purifying the space and bringing peace.

Its light geometric shape reminds us of the orderliness of the world and the fragile balance of life.
