Handmade. Traditional Kosiv ceramics.
Kumanets is a ritual circular shaped container. Since Cossack times, pitchers have been widespread throughout Ukraine. At first they were used to hold and pour strong drinks during the wedding. Now this item is used in everyday life or as an element of decor.
The item is made and painted by a talented Ukrainian craftsman. It looks great in the interior and combines with other ceramics.
Kosiv ceramics was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Artistic Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2019. The peculiarity of these ceramics is a three-color range of items - yellow, green, brown. This combination is associated with the perception of nature: yellow symbolizes the sun, green - Carpathian mountains, brown - the earth. Sometimes masters add blue as well. Two types of clay are used to create each item: brown and red for the base and white, which serves as a background for the drawings. The "scratching" technique of sgraffito is used. The process of making ceramics takes place in several stages: creating a mold, drying, painting, the first firing, coating, the second firing.
