The oval box is decorated in the technique of Petrikovsky painting with a glossy finish. The inner surface of the box is decorated with soft cashmere. It is hand-painted with oil paints and covered with with four layers of glossy varnish.
Petrykivka painting is the Ukrainian folk style that originated from the village of Petrykivka. It was traditionally used to decorate household items. The earliest known examples of this style date from the 18th century, but it continues to thrive and develop as a modern art form. In this style is traditionally dominated by floral motifs on white or black background. Petrykivka painting was included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013.
