Sylianky, or braids, are straight strips of beads that are tied around the back of the neck. The name comes from the method of making such jewelry (“syliania” is a way of stringing beads on a thread). Women wore small (two to three centimeters) sylianky every day as a talisman (the strength of the sylianky as a talisman was always determined by the ornament).
